But there were a significant number of people who planned to come into Prologue that didn't (for a variety of reasons) and have said that they would have come in if they had known that coming in early might have made a difference. <snip>

But getting the word out there so that everyone who wants to come (or come back) knows that they have a chance to is a good thing. Thanks for what you all have done and are doing to help with that.

I got Uru: ABM for Christmas. By the time I got through it offline, Live was canceled.

Here's another nickle - if I had known, and it was still a free beta, I certainly would have tried it and tolerated any annoyances for the price. But I wasn't really interested until I was done playing offline. I remember there was some contention about this concept of a dual offline/online game. I guess my anecdote shows it was a valid concern. If Cyan had been given a little bit more time...

I would not have paid until Live was solidly into prime time production and showing new content. But I would have paid. For what it's worth to your piggy bank, people like me would not have paid to get Cyan out of beta. You have to make it work before you really know who will subscribe, withered carrots and handleless umbrellas notwithstanding. I've heard the previous funding was pulled because someone, not Cyan, decided Live would sell no more subscriptions than the number already online trying it for free on beta. That's just bizarre. It would be closer to the truth that Uru would sell no more subscriptions than retail boxes. And Uru was right up there at the time, correct?

I'm here now because Cyan's own D'mala is available. Even if it were still $4.95 for a key, I'd be here now. But it did take an offical Cyan shard for me to be inspired enough to install the client. That should mean something to the investors. Otherwise it seemed hopeless and a bit lonely and not really worth the time. I'm glad you're back.

Yep. You are not alone. There were many reasons that people were waiting.

We (Cyan) understood that. We tried to make that case to the people with the purse strings before. Rand begged for "just six more months". There were not ears to hear, at least not the right ears.

O, that way madness lies. No more of that.

That was then. This is now. (Deep, eh?)

I'm sticking with my "cautious optimism" that this time will be different.

:)

Are the ears open to enough time this time? Because this time there is less to offer and it will be harder to gather.......and......some content......and......free is not enough......and

I saw this post a week or so ago when I was typing up one of my other responses and forgot to come back to this one. Apologies.

I have to admit that there is a small part of me that wishes that were possible. I miss some of the stories we had planned that were over-written by the XPs and Myst V.

For example, I would have loved to have had the intended gradual revelation of the Bahro and their abilities over time, rather than just blatantly showing them as happened in Myst V. But if we did that now, it would be extremely anti-climactic, because you already know some of the things they can do.

Another example is Ahnonay. It would have been great for that Age to have been explored multi-player as it was originally designed. It would be a lot of work to reset Ahnonay to the way it used to be. And not much bang for that buck, as you've already seen the payoff for solving those puzzles.

So we really need to move forward from where we are. The story has changed, for better or worse, and we're going to adapt to it. There are some things that we might be able to set back as we go forward (I have a few specific things in mind, actually) without tearing a hole in the space/time continuum, but for the most part, that stuff is gone for good.

That's ok. There are even better things coming (cautious optimism).

:)

Personally, I wouldn't mind at all if these Ages could be re-incorporated back into UrU Live (cautious optimism) a little at a time. Much like the smaller Ages and areas to be opened that were once going to be part of how Ages were added. Even if the story has been told and the solutions have been found, just being able to explore these areas or Ages with friends would be like a whole new experience. Even better if you all there at Cyan could add little twists to the overall game play of these Ages ... like little rewards.

Hmmm ... perhaps I'm just dreaming to much now. Rolling Eyes

I had a paragraph to address this in my post, but I deleted it because it pretty much just said the same thing I said yesterday. I should have left it in. :)

There are key people at the potential investor that understand the potential of Live. That's one of the reasons we got the "limited funding" we have now. But "full-blown Live" will need quite a bit more than that. So there are other people there that need to see the potential of Live. These people, however, probably have a different definition of "potential".

I wish it were a sure thing, but the reality is that it is not. Hence the "cautious optimism."

That is why we're trying to spread the word, and why we're asking for you to help us spread the word in your own ways.

:)

Sorry I wasn't clearer. I'm not saying that the Ages from the XPs and Myst V are gone for good. Most of them probably will be brought back into Live at some point (cautious optimism). But I don't think we'll be going back to their original designs, so the original stories based on those Ages are probably gone for good.

Clearer?

:)

Thank you RAWA.

Much clearer ... and quite intriguing as well. I eagerly await ... with cautious optimism (of course Razz ) ... to see how you make this happen. Getting even more excited. Very Happy
